Aso Rock Visit: I Asked Tinubu To Guide Me Properly – Fubara
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, on Monday, held a closed door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
This is the first time that the President is meeting with the Rivers State Governor, since he was reinstated after the declaration of a State of emergency in the State.
In March, following failed efforts to resolve the lingering political crisis between Governor Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly loyal to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, the President declared a State of emergency for 6 months, appointing Vice-Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (rtd) as the sole Administrator.
But, with the return of peace, the President last week lifted the emergency rule and asked the Governor, his deputy and members of the State House of Assembly to resume their duties.
Addressing State House correspondents after meeting with the President, Fubara said he was in the Villa to tell President Tinubu that he has resumed his duties.
He also said President Tinubu advised him on how to carry on, so that there will no longer be crisis in the state.
The governor also said he was now working with his principal and peace has now returned to the state.
He said, “You’re aware that the suspension was lifted midnight 17th, and I came in on the 19th. Ideally, it’s proper for me to see Mr. President and to tell him that I’m back, and I’ve also resumed my responsibility as the Governor of the Rivers State.”
On what was discussed, he said, “It’s father-son discussion, telling him thank you and and the areas where, if at all, there should be any issue for him to guide me properly so we don’t be in any situation that will bring crisis again. That’s all.”
Fubara said the President also advised him on what to do going forward and how to move in the right direction for peace in the state.
On whether the peace is fragile, Governor Fubara said, “As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together.”
