Efforts Underway to Obtain International Warrant for Extradition of FCT Minister Wike to U.S. Over Alleged Money Laundering – Sowore
Human rights advocate and former presidential contender under the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has announced that efforts are in progress to initiate an international arrest warrant for Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, with the aim of extraditing him to the United States over allegations of money laundering.
Sowore, who leads the #RevolutionNow Movement, shared the update via a post on his verified X account (formerly Twitter) on Monday.
He accused Wike of purchasing high-end properties in Florida using misappropriated funds, allegedly registered under his children’s names. “We hope Nigeria’s FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, won’t escape accountability,” Sowore stated.
“He has laundered stolen funds to buy mansions for every member of his immediate family in Florida.
“Steps are already in motion toward securing an international warrant that could see Wike arrested and extradited to the U.S. to face money laundering charges sooner than he thinks.”
Sowore responded to the U.S. government’s firm caution directed at Nigerian politicians and elites implicated in corruption, emphasizing that the imposed visa restrictions apply even to the most prominent figures.
In a statement issued by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria and posted on X, the American authorities underscored that corruption has global repercussions, ones that political clout or domestic influence cannot protect against.
The statement, posted with the hashtag #VisaWiseTravelSmart, read, “Did You Know Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving #USVisas. FIGHTING CORRUPTION KNOWS NO BORDERS or limits on accountability.”
A new statement emerged amid revelations by Sowore, who disclosed alleged money laundering activities implicating Wike, his wife Justice Eberechi Suzette Nyesom-Wike, and their three children—Jordan, Joaquin, and Jazmyne Nyesom-Wike.
According to SaharaReporters, Henry Omorere, a digital forensics expert affiliated with Teesside University in the UK, has formally submitted a petition to the Florida Attorney General seeking details and updates regarding the purported offenses involving the Wike family.
