Bandits attack police station in Kaduna, kill two officers
Bandits have attacked a police station in Zonkwa town, Zangon Kataf local government area of Kaduna state, killing at least two officers.
The incident occurred on Friday evening, throwing the community into panic.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the station, located a few metres from Kamyim Hotel in Kurmin-Bi, Zonkwa, and began shooting sporadically.
The gunmen were reportedly attempting to free some suspected vandals arrested earlier in Kachia town.
One witness said: “They believed that the suspects were being detained at the Zonkwa police station. However, it was later gathered that the suspects were not being held there. But the havoc had already been done.”
A security source confirmed the attack but declined to give details.
A video seen showed two police officers in uniform lying lifeless on the floor. Residents were seen gathered around the scene discussing the incident, which further highlights the growing insecurity across the country.
Normalcy was said to have been restored to the area after the attack.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna police command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
