JUST IN: Plateau govt orders immediate closure of primary and secondary schools over security concerns
The Plateau Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has directed the immediate closure of all primary and junior secondary schools in the state.
Mr. Richard Jonah, public relations officer of the board, disclosed the decision in a statement on Friday in Jos.
He said the directive underscores “the urgent need for preventive action and to safeguard lives and property in the state.”
“All Government Junior Model Secondary Schools (GJMSSs) will close effective Saturday, November 22, while primary and day schools will close effective Monday, November 24,” Jonah added.
He assured parents, guardians and stakeholders that the closure is a temporary but necessary step to forestall potential security threats.
He added that the measure aims to reassure communities that the government is prioritising the wellbeing of its students.
Jonah said management of the board has advised all local government education authorities, school administrators and community leaders to cooperate fully with the directive and remain vigilant.
