8 Abducted As Bandits Attack Kwara Communities
Suspected kidnappers have struck twice within days in parts of Kwara State, abducting at least eight residents.
The incident occurred in separate attacks on Gaa Jimoh community in Ijara Isin, Isin Local Government Area, and Gaa Power Line area of Omu Aran.
It was gathered that the first incident occurred on Monday at about 6.30am in Gaa Jimoh.
Residents said armed men, in large numbers, invaded the community in the early hours and forcefully took away the victims.
Those abducted were identified as Adebayo Saheed, Adebayo Fatimah, Adebayo Salamat, Ibrahim Mohammed and Ibrahim Yusuf.
Community sources said the attackers operated for several minutes before escaping with their victims, leaving residents in fear.
The second incident in Omu-Aran reportedly occurred on Friday at about 7.30pm at Gaa Power Line in Omu Aran.
Local sources disclosed that no fewer than five armed men stormed the area, firing shots into the air to scare residents.
Three people were reportedly abducted during the attack.
They were identified as Mrs Fatimah, who was carrying her two month old baby, Adama Musa and Umaru Sanda.
It was gathered that the kidnappers later released Mrs Fatimah and her baby while they fled with the remaining two captives.
Efforts to get the Commissioner of Police were not successful as he busied calls made to him by our correspondent.
The police spokesperson, Ejire-Adeyemi SP, said she would call back when our correspondent also contacted her.
But the council chairman of Isin Local Government, Hon Benjamin Jolayemi, confirmed the incident in Ijara-Isin during a telephone chat on Monday night.
“Yes but we are making efforts to rescue all those that have been kidnapped. The Army, Police and other security operatives are there working. But I cannot tell you the number of those kidnapped because it’s not what we are happy about,” he said.(Daily trust)
