‘God called him, Flavour recalled him’ – Fans react to Odumeje’s new video

Singer, Flavour N’abania, has once again stirred conversations online following the release of his latest collaborative track with controversial cleric, Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, titled ‘War Ready’.

Shortly after the visualiser dropped, social media platforms were flooded with reactions—ranging from excitement and humour to concern—over Odumeje’s growing presence in mainstream entertainment. Beyond the music and accompanying memes, a recurring argument among fans is that Flavour is “using” Odumeje more for entertainment than the prophet is being used for ministry.

The debate gained traction after Flavour shared a promotional visual of himself and Odumeje dressed in matching black outfits, captioned, “Men in black apuo! WAR READY (Visualizer) out now.” The post quickly attracted thousands of comments, with fans praising the energy of the collaboration while others questioned whether Odumeje’s spiritual calling had been overtaken by showbiz.

@VJChybels said, “Flavour is using Odumeje more than God. It’s giving me concern.” Another user, @oncle_divo, added, “God called Odumeje to ministry. Flavour recalled him to the music industry.”

This is not the first time the duo has dominated online conversations. Their 2024 collaboration, Powers, turned Odumeje’s popular pulpit catchphrases—such as “Abido Shaker,” “Gadu Gangsta,” and “Skabash”—into club-ready lyrics, further blurring the line between ministry and entertainment.

Known for his flamboyant sermons, dramatic spiritual theatrics, and viral catchphrases, Odumeje has increasingly been viewed as a hybrid figure—part prophet, part entertainer, and part internet meme. While some critics argue that Flavour has effectively rebranded him into a full-blown celebrity performer, others see the collaboration as harmless fun.

Defending the duo, @keren_adele wrote, “These are the things that make living in Nigeria bearable.” Despite the song being widely described as a “banger,” sceptics remain unconvinced. “Flavour, a friend of particular concern,” @ms_dera commented, while @miracle_thekingpriest joked, “Flavour is that friend our parents warned us about.”

Some reactions took on a more satirical tone. “You and God are dragging Odumeje,” @emejiwe_promise wrote, while @vivitochi concluded, “A prophet that has answered his call—Flavour called him a second time.”

As the debate continues, many Nigerians are now questioning whether Odumeje has stepped away from ministry or whether his brand of ministry has simply evolved into a multi-platform experience. What remains clear is that the Flavour–Odumeje partnership has carved out a unique space in Nigerian pop culture, blending music, memes, spiritual theatre, cruise culture and strategic branding into a phenomenon that continues to command attention online.(Punch)
