Showunmi Claims Wike is One Sack Letter Away from EFCC
In a scathing assessment of the nation’s power dynamics, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Segun Showunmi has declared that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is at his “weakest political point,” warning that he faces total annihilation if President Bola Tinubu turns against him.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Showunmi argued that Wike’s political security has evaporated alongside the decline of the PDP. He suggested that without a strong opposition party to serve as a refuge, the Minister is now “one sledgehammer away” from a date with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“I’ve never seen him so weak in my life,” Showunmi stated. “All that needs to happen is for the President to wake up and take his sledgehammer, remove him, throw him to the EFCC, and that’s it. Who’s going to rescue him?”
Loss of ‘Political Insurance’
Showunmi contended that Wike’s formidable reputation was previously anchored in his control over a viable alternative platform. By allegedly presiding over the “death” of the PDP, Showunmi believes Wike has stripped himself of the negotiating leverage and “political insurance” that once made him untouchable.
“Wike is not going to be a happy man if the PDP dies,” the chieftain added, noting that the absence of a credible alternative party leaves all politicians—including those in power—vulnerable to absolute executive whims.
Deepening Vulnerability
The remarks come as the Minister faces a barrage of attacks from his own party. Only recently, PDP spokesperson Ini Ememobong accused the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of “begging” Wike for land, suggesting that the Minister’s current influence is built on “institutional capture” rather than genuine political strength.
While Wike has remained characteristically defiant—recently threatening to use force to access stadiums in Rivers State for political rallies—Showunmi maintains that the Minister is “labouring under an illusion of safety.”
Will Minister Wike take steps to resuscitate the PDP as a fallback plan, or will he continue to tether his entire political survival to the goodwill of the Presidency?
