‘Godfather’ actor Robert Duvall dies at 95
Robert Duvall, the US actor best known for his roles in ‘Godfather’ and ‘Apocalypse Now,’ has passed away at the age of 95.
Luciana Duvall, his wife, announced his demise in a statement on his Facebook page on Monday.
Sharing a picture of herself and Robert, she disclosed that he “passed away peacefully” at home on Sunday.
She also praised his love for his craft and appreciated those who showed him support all through his career.
“Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller,” she wrote.
“To me, he was simply everything. His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented.
“In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all. Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind.”
Robert was an acclaimed actor, director and producer whose career has spanned more than six decades.
A graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York, Duvall trained alongside contemporaries such as Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman.
He began with stage and television roles in the late 1950s before gaining widespread attention for his film debut as Boo Radley in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’.
Duvall earned global recognition for his role as Tom Hagen in ‘The Godfather’ and its sequel and later won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as country singer Mac Sledge in ‘Tender Mercies’.
Other notable films in his extensive filmography include ‘Apocalypse Now’, ‘The Great Santini’ and ‘Lonesome Dove’.
