Former Kano Finance Commissioner, Kabiru Dandago, Is Dead
Prof. Kabiru Isa Dandago, a former Kano State Commissioner for Finance and renowned academic, has died.
Dandago reportedly died on Wednesday at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital after a brief illness, according to Bayero University Kano.
“With the total submission to Almighty Allah, we announce the death of Professor Kabir Isa Dandago, a Professor of Accounting and Taxation. He died today, Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital,” the university announced on Wednesday evening.
“He was a former Commissioner of Finance in Kano State. On behalf of the management, staff and students, we extend our deepest sympathy to his family.”
Following the announcement of his death, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the elder statesman.
The governor’s condolence message was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Yusuf described the late professor as a dedicated public servant and accomplished scholar whose contributions to education and governance left lasting footprints in Kano State.
According to the statement, Dandago served the state with integrity and commitment, earning widespread respect for his professionalism, humility and passion for knowledge.
“The death of Prof. Dandago is a huge loss to Kano State. We have lost a valuable son whose experience and wisdom greatly enriched public service and the academic community,” the governor said.
He extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the academic community and the people of Kano State over what he described as an irreparable loss.
The governor also prayed that Almighty Allah forgive the shortcomings of the late Dandago and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while giving his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.
