I spend N11m monthly on diesel at KAP Village – can’t cope again, Kunle Afolayan laments
Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has lamented about the harsh impact of rising diesel costs on his business operations in Lagos.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Tuesday, Afolayan revealed how the increasing price of diesel is making it increasingly difficult for businesses like his to stay afloat.
The movie producer, who owns the KAP Film Village and Resort, disclosed that the facility currently gulps around N11 million in fuel expenses every four to five weeks.
“I have been sad because I can’t cope with the N1,500 per litre of diesel. In one of the businesses that we run, the KAP Film Village, we spend about N11m in four or five weeks on diesel. And we have solar power, but we’re still spending about N11m,” he said.
Afolayan also shared the financial strain this has caused, noting that his team sometimes has to buy diesel on credit because immediate payment isn’t always possible.
“The diesel we have been buying, we have been buying on credit. When we make small money, we find a way to pay,” he said.
“Sometimes it takes two months to even pay down and then get another one on credit. But now from about N1,000 or N995 to N1,500, it’s not sustainable.”
The filmmaker pleaded with the public and potential investors for support, saying, “we really need help to upgrade our solar system. If anyone can come through, I’d truly appreciate it”.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery recently increased its gantry price of petrol.
Afolayan’s remark comes a few days after Pete Edochie, the ace actor, voiced deep concern over Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions, revealing the heavy financial burden of securing basic amenities like electricity.
Edochie lamented that he spends approximately N40,000 daily on electricity and fuel — a cost he said is deeply troubling. (The Cable)
