Troops Neutralise Terrorists, Recover Arms In Sokoto
Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed three suspected terrorists and recovered arms during a military operation in Kadam Forest in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation was carried out by troops of the Nigerian Army Special Intervention Battalion 7 in collaboration with the 8 Division Strike Team, operating under Operation Fansan Yamma.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Olaniyi Osoba, the troops engaged a notorious terrorist network linked to the Lakurawa.
Osoba said the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that more than 100 terrorists had gathered deep inside Kadam Forest to plan attacks and kidnappings in surrounding communities.
“Acting swiftly on this intelligence, troops mobilised to intercept the terrorists. Contact was established at about 12 noon,” he said.
He added that the gun battle was intense, as the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre but were repelled by troops who maintained tactical superiority throughout the encounter.
During follow-up exploitation operations in the forest, the troops confirmed that three terrorists were neutralised, while several others were believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.
The troops also recovered one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three magazines, two communication radios, three motorcycles and a mobile phone.
