How I Disobeyed My Dad To Become A Star – Asake
Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has revealed how he defied his father’s wishes to pursue a career in music.
The ‘Sungba’ crooner made the disclosure during an interview with YouTuber Korty EO, where he recounted leaving home at the age of 15 after his father opposed his musical ambitions.
According to the singer, his determination to follow his passion led him to walk away from home despite their close relationship at the time.
“The father who gave birth to me, he’s more stubborn than I am. So I couldn’t look him in the face.
We were close when I was younger, but I came to a point when I wanted to leave home to do what I am doing now, but my father said no,”Asake said.
He continued:“But I just took off regardless. I was 15 then, focused on where I was going. And there was nothing anybody could tell me.”
Despite the disagreement, the singer emphasised that his love and respect for his father remain unwavering.
“Even if he points a gun at me, till eternity he will always be my dad, and I will still show him the same love,” he added.
Asake also noted that he holds both parents in high regard, underscoring the importance of family in his life.
The revelation comes amid renewed public interest in the singer’s family relationships following a series of developments over the past year.
Earlier reports indicated that his father, Fatai Ololade, had publicly appealed for financial assistance due to health challenges. In a widely circulated video, he alleged neglect despite his son’s growing fame.
The situation sparked reactions online, further intensified by separate claims from a woman identified as Adijat, who alleged that the singer had neglected her and their daughter.
However, subsequent updates suggested a resolution, as Asake reportedly reached out to support his father. In a follow-up video, his father confirmed that the singer had agreed to cover his medical expenses and provide additional support.
More recently, the artiste has also been seen in viral videos gifting his parents, including presenting his mother with a car during Ramadan and reportedly giving his father a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser.
