Mbappe one goal from France record after Brazil masterclass
Kylian Mbappe moved to within one goal of equalling France’s all-time scoring record after netting in a 2–1 victory over Brazil in a high-profile international friendly in the United States.
The France captain opened the scoring in style, racing through to chip Ederson just after the half-hour mark at Gillette Stadium near Boston.
Despite being reduced to 10 men early in the second half following the dismissal of Dayot Upamecano, Les Bleus extended their lead through Hugo Ekitike in the 65th minute.
Brazil, now under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti, responded late on when Gleison Bremer pulled one back with a close-range finish, but France held firm to secure the win.
Mbappe Nears Historic Milestone
Mbappé’s goal was his 56th in 95 appearances for France, leaving him just one shy of the national record of 57 held by Olivier Giroud.
The Real Madrid forward, recently back from a knee injury, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance.
“We are creating chances and looking more solid. This will help us prepare for the World Cup,” he said.
Positive Signs Ahead of World Cup
The victory offers encouragement for Didier Deschamps’s side ahead of the tournament, where they will face Senegal, Norway and a play-off winner in the group stage.
For Brazil, the defeat highlights areas to address despite optimism surrounding Ancelotti’s appointment, as they aim to challenge for a record-extending sixth World Cup title.
