The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebowale Ogundoyin, has reacted to reports of an alleged impeachment plan against Governor Seyi Makinde, admitting that he was offered money but refused it.

According to earlier reports, the Speaker was said to have been involved in meetings linked to an alleged move to remove the governor, including interactions with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, and former First Lady Florence Ajimobi. However, he later issued a clarification addressing the claims.

In his statement, Ogundoyin confirmed that he met with the former First Lady and the Olubadan, but said the purpose was not solely political. He explained that during the meeting, he was offered financial inducement to support the impeachment of Governor Makinde, but he turned it down.

He said, “I was offered monetary inducement, but I declined without hesitation because no amount of money can buy my conscience or compromise my loyalty to the Governor, the party, and the people we were elected to serve.

“I remain fully committed to upholding the integrity of this House and will not be part of any agenda aimed at destabilising the government.”

He also added that part of his engagement with the traditional ruler was to seek royal blessings for his own governorship ambition.

Meanwhile, Florence Ajimobi has denied all allegations linking her to any impeachment plan against Governor Makinde.

In a statement from her media office, she rejected claims that she offered or arranged financial inducements for lawmakers to influence the Assembly against the governor. She said the reports were false and intended to damage her reputation.

Ajimobi also denied ever attending or organising any meeting, in Lagos or elsewhere, where such political discussions or impeachment plans were allegedly made.(GWG)
