The Nigerian Army has announced the disruption of a terrorist logistics supply route and arrested couriers in possession of a large cache of ammunition in Kogi State.

The operation, taken by troops of the 12 Brigade, was part of a three-month intensified crackdown on criminal elements, led to the dismantling of a logistics network used to move arms within the state.

In a statement on Monday, signed by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, disclosed that the troops acted on credible intelligence to intercept the suspects.

According to the statement, troops deployed at Response Area Oshokoshoko mounted a snap checkpoint along the Obajana–Kabba Road in Lokoja Local Government Area on April 20, 2026.

During the operation, a Toyota bus conveying two suspects, identified as Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi, was intercepted while en route to Obajana from Makurdi.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 314 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition and three AK-47 rifle magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat.

Other items recovered from the suspects include two mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a National Identification Number slip, and an identity card.

The Army also revealed that the latest success followed the earlier arrest of a high-profile ammunition courier, Mathew Elisha, popularly known as Nasara, who had been on the military’s security watch list.

In a related development on March 29, 2026, troops along the Jamata–Owara Road intercepted a motorcycle rider whose vehicle was specially modified with a concealed compartment for the covert conveyance of ammunition.

The military stated that preliminary findings linked the suspect to known terrorist elements, leading to further operations.

“This successful interception underscores the vigilance and proactive posture of troops in denying terrorists freedom of movement and disrupting their logistics network within the operational environment,” the statement added.

According to the statement, the suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation and necessary action.
