Bandits on Monday morning attacked Awon village in Southern Kaduna, killing one person and abducting at least 10 others in the latest wave of violence in the area.

A source, a retired staff member of Kachia Local Government Area, confirmed that the incident occurred in Awon, a community in Kuturmi land within the local government.

According to the source, the attackers opened fire on residents, triggering panic as villagers fled for safety.

One person was killed instantly, while about ten others were abducted.

Several residents reportedly escaped into nearby forests and have yet to return.

Further reports indicate that others sustained severe injuries, while the exact number of abducted persons remains unclear.

Residents say this is not the first time Awon has come under attack.

Just last week, locals reportedly repelled an attempted invasion by bandits.

The latest incident follows earlier attacks on Ariko town on Easter Sunday and Sabon Gari Akwana village, both in Kuturmi land.

The violence reflects a broader pattern of insecurity affecting communities across the western part of Kachia Local Government Area. In recent weeks, several villages—as well as parts of Kachia town—have experienced repeated attacks and kidnappings.

Outlying areas, including Ungwan Mission, have reportedly been under persistent threat.

The continued attacks have heightened concerns among residents, who describe the situation as alarming and distressing, with communities living in constant fear of further violence and abductions.

Community members are calling for urgent intervention to address the worsening security situation and to safeguard lives and property in the affected areas.(SaharaReporters)
