‘Be prepared for the trenches’ — Buba Galadima advises Obi, Kwankwaso supporters
Buba Galadima, secretary of the board of trustees of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has urged supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to be prepared to “ferociously” defend the politicians.
Galadima spoke on Saturday at a stakeholder meeting organised by the Obi-Kwankwaso movement in Abuja.
He said the politicians would, on Monday, announce their decision on the platform on which they intend to contest the 2027 elections.
Habibu Mohammed, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya movement, had earlier informed TheCable that Obi, a former vice-presidential candidate, and Kwankwaso, an ex-governor of Kano, would soon leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mohammed said discussions with the NDC had reached “about 90 percent” with only minor issues left to be resolved.
Speaking at the stakeholder meeting, Galadima urged Obi-Kwankwaso supporters to brace for impact, adding that the decision of their principals will elicit a barrage of attacks.
“I’m here to guide you on your response to what will happen. First, they will sponsor columnists. They will deploy social media influencers to start attacking our candidates,” Galadima said.
“For all of you who are on social media, for all of you who use the mighty pen, you must be prepared to respond to anything they are going to say—anything under the sun that they may say about our leaders, whom we know very well to be people of integrity and honour. We must counter them with the ferociousness that is expected of an intelligent person.”
Referencing the biblical Pharaoh who was eventually drowned when Moses parted the Red Sea, Galadima said the APC would surely be defeated in 2027.
He added that incumbent leaders have forgotten the past when leaders stifled opposition and thought they were undefeatable — but were eventually defeated.
“Salvaging a country from the hands of fascists like this is not an easy task,” he said.
“It requires sacrifice, strategy, and the use of the internet. So, ladies and gentlemen, be prepared to be in the trenches to safeguard our freedom. Let no one deceive you into thinking it will be easy.
“In your struggle, I expect you to say: come rain or shine, we must democratically, through the ballot box, remove this bad government. The ball is in our court.” (TheCable)
