‘I have joined LP’ — Ishaku Abbo quits ADC, says party’s future uncertain
Ishaku Abbo, the former senator representing Adamawa north, has announced his defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Labour Party (LP).
Abbo conveyed his decision in a statement on Sunday, citing “uncertainties” in the ADC following the recent ruling of the supreme court on the party’s leadership dispute.
On Thursday, the apex court voided a court of appeal judgment that had asked parties in the crisis to maintain the status quo, and instead returned the matter to the federal high court for determination.
“Following the leadership crises rocking the ADC at national and state level leaving all of us high on uncertainty, I have today joined the Labour Party alongside my supporters so we can contest elections in 2027,” Abbo said.
The former senator said he left the party to pursue his political aspirations, adding that his decision was not borne out of resentment.
“I am leaving ADC not out of hate for the party but to pursue our political aspirations because I carry the dreams of many people,” he said.
Abbo added that he has forgiven those who “deliberately hurt and betrayed” him while contributing to the development of the party.
The senator thanked David Umahi, minister of works; Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser; and Ayo Fayose, former governor of Ekiti; for their support and encouragement, despite belonging to a different political party. (The Cable)
