Bruno Fernandes has broken the all-time assist record in a season in the English Premier League (EPL).

The Portugal midfielder provided his 21st assist in the match against Brighton & Hove Albion to move ahead of Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne in the all-time record list.

The 31-year-old playmaker put the ball on a plate for Patrick Dorgu with a cross from a corner kick to put Man United ahead in the 33rd minute.

Fernandes’ assists have also translated to winning points for Man United in a turbulent season that has ended with the Red Devils returning to the UEFA Champions League next season with a third-place finish in the league.

Fernandes’ assists alone has provided 21 points from his team so far this season, breaking the 17 points of Darren Anderton set in the 1994/95 season.

Fernandes’ first assist of the season came in October against Liverpool, and the former Sporting Lisbon player has registered 10 assists from set pieces, one short of Steven Gerard’s tally of 11 assists.

Fernandes’ has provided 14 assists since Michael Carrick was appointed interim manager in January, the club legend switched Fernandes behind the strikers from a deeper role.

Fernandes, named the player of the season by both the Football Writers Association and Premier League, has 71 EPL assists in his Man United career, and is fourth behind the trio of Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, and David Beckham.
