How Nigeria can overcome hunger — BUA

The Chairman of BUA Foods Plc, Alh. Abdul Samad Rabiu, has identified heavy investments in agriculture by both the government and private sector operators as a key factor necessary to tackle hunger in the country.

He spoke at the 5th Annual General Meeting of the company in Abuja, yesterday, where the company declared a Profit After Tax of N518.4 billion for the year ended December 2025, as against the N265.9 billion recorded in the preceding year.

He said that while the company was proud of its financial performance, it recognized that it was playing in an important sector considered as vital for the development of the country, adding, “We have a responsibility not only to create value for our shareholders but also to help build a stronger, more competitive industry that contributes to Nigeria’s long-term growth.”

Rabiu said that the pursuit of building a stronger foods industry accounted for its planned massive expansion that would see it become the clear leader of the competition.

His words, “By next year when our current projects are completed, BUA will become the largest player in our sector in Nigeria.  We are not pursuing growth merely for the sake of becoming bigger.   We are pursuing growth because scale matters in an industry like ours.

“I am pleased to report that the business is doing very well. Our performance year reflects the discipline, efficiency, and hard work of our people across the organization. We have delivered strong results, and we remain confident about the future.”

Rabiu noted that four companies control 90 percent of the Foods industry in the country and that BUA was the only indigenous company among them, a position, he said, board and management recognized and working to take a clear lead in the competition.

In a post-AGM interview, Non-Executive Director, BUA Foods, Alh. Kabiru Rabiu, reiterated the need for massive government and private capital investments in the agricultural sector in order to end food insecurity in the country.
