Delta: Suspected Cultist Allegedly Shoots Colleague Who Renounced Membership
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity, identified as Oghenebuba Mamatime, over the alleged shooting of a former cult member in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the suspect, who had been on the command’s watch list for his alleged involvement in cult-related activities, was arrested by the police in collaboration with youths from Jesse Community.
He said the suspect was arrested on July 21, 2026, following a complaint from the victim, who alleged that he was shot by the suspect after deciding to renounce cultism in the Jesse area of the state.
Edafe said the suspect, an alleged member of the Eiye Confraternity, reportedly shot the victim on July 2, 2026, along Ujomi Road in Jesse, Delta State.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who is alleged to be a member of the Eiye Confraternity, was unhappy with the victim over his decision to renounce cultism.
According to him, in a bid to force the victim back into the confraternity, an argument ensued, leading to the shooting.
He added that three locally made pistols and one locally made single-barrel gun were recovered from the suspect upon his arrest.
Edafe said the suspect is in custody, while investigations into the matter are ongoing
He, however, advised members of the public, particularly the youths, to shun all forms of cult-related activities.(Daily trust)
