Kano building collapse: Fire service rescues 16 victims

At least 16 people have been rescued alive following the collapse of a residential building at Dan Dishe, Kwanar Yashi in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

Three of the victims were rescued unconscious after the early morning incident.

Saminu Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday.

“The Kano State Fire Service wishes to inform the general public that at about 4:32 am today, Saturday, 8 August 2026, the Service’s Emergency Response Unit received an emergency call from one of our staff, Aminu Sani Warure, reporting the collapse of a building at Dan Dishe, Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area.

“Upon receiving the report, men of the Service from the Headquarters were immediately mobilized to the scene. On arrival, they discovered that a residential building of about 20 × 30 ft had collapsed,” the statement said.

According to the agency, all the victims were handed over to Usman Ibrahim, the brother of their father, for further necessary attention.

The fire service added that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the collapse.

“The Kano State Fire Service urges members of the public to observe all necessary safety precautions, particularly during the rainy season, to prevent similar incidents,” the statement added.
