French Football Federation withdraws support for Infantino’s re-election

The French Football Federation (FFF) has withdrawn its support for Gianni Infantino’s bid for another term as FIFA president, citing a breakdown of trust in his leadership. The decision was unanimously approved by the federation’s executive committee on Thursday.

FFF president Philippe Diallo said the federation no longer agrees with how world football is governed and called for significant reforms to FIFA’s governance structure.

The decision follows controversy over Infantino’s abandoned plan to sell a 20 per cent stake in FIFA competitions to private investors. Several football confederations strongly opposed the proposal before FIFA dropped it.

France’s decision adds to growing opposition to Infantino among European football federations, with England and Italy also withdrawing their support. UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation and CONCACAF have called for changes at the top of FIFA.

The FIFA presidential election is scheduled for March 18, 2027, in Rabat, Morocco. Infantino is seeking another term, but growing resistance could lead to a stronger challenge to his leadership.
