Tinubu fulfils $100,000 reward pledge to D’Tigress

…each official gets $50,000, houses, national honours

…says FG concluding outstanding Super Falcons cash rewards

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the full redemption of the rewards promised to members and officials of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their continental triumph.

Tinubu said each player received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official received the equivalent of $50,000, in addition to national honours and three-bedroom houses in Abuja that the Federal Government had earlier promised.

The President, in a message posted on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, on Thursday, said the payments completed the reward package pledged to the team.

He also disclosed that the Federal Government was concluding the payment of outstanding cash rewards promised the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s senior women’s football team.

According to Tinubu, the fulfilment of the D’Tigress package marked the first time a Federal Government had fully redeemed presidential sporting rewards of such magnitude within one year.

“Today, the rewards I promised our D’Tigress have been fully redeemed.

“Each player has received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official has received the equivalent of $50,000, completing their package of cash rewards, national honours and three-bedroom homes in Abuja.

“For the first time, a Federal Government has fulfilled this scale of presidential sporting rewards in full within one year. We had to follow the processes required by law and ensure that every commitment was properly implemented. That took time, but a promise made must be a promise kept”, the President said.

Tinubu explained that although the implementation took time, the government had to comply with processes required by law and ensure that every component of the pledge was properly executed.

Giving an update on rewards promised other national teams, the President said the Super Falcons players and officials had already received title documents for their allocated houses as well as certificates for their national honours.

“We are also concluding the outstanding cash rewards for our Super Falcons.

“The Super Falcons players and officials have already received the title documents to their house allocations and National Honours certificates”, he said.

The President further disclosed that the Federal Government had fulfilled its promises of houses and national honours to members of the Super Eagles.

“Likewise, the promise of houses and national honours I made to Super Eagles players has since been redeemed,” Tinubu said.

He maintained that Nigerian athletes who brought honour to the country deserved more than public applause, stressing that government had an obligation to honour commitments made to them.

“Our athletes who bring honour to Nigeria deserve more than applause. They deserve a country that keeps its word”, the President said.

Tinubu renewed his commitment to rewarding Nigerian sportsmen and women who distinguish themselves while representing the country, urging athletes to continue striving for excellence on the international stage.

“My promise to every Nigerian athlete is to make NIGERIA proud, and come back to a grateful Nation.

“Congratulations once again, our athletes. Nigeria is proud of you”, he said.
