BREAKING: Several Feared Dead As Helicopter Crashes In Ondo
Several people are feared dead after a helicopter reportedly crashed in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Monday, October 5, 2026.
The incident reportedly occurred in the riverine community, sparking panic among residents as efforts were launched to reach the crash site.
Initial reports indicate that the helicopter came down in a swampy area opposite the Naval Base in Igbokoda. The chairman of Ilaje Local Government Area, Maurice Oripelaye, reportedly confirmed the incident and said military equipment had been found at the scene. However, the aircraft was said to have been badly burnt.
There are conflicting early reports about whether the aircraft was a military helicopter, and the identity of the operator, the number of people on board and the confirmed casualty figure have not yet been officially established.
The Ondo State Police Command was reportedly not immediately aware of the crash when contacted, with its spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, saying he would make inquiries.
Rescue efforts are reportedly underway, while authorities are expected to provide further information on the circumstances surrounding the crash and the fate of those aboard.
