‘We Rescued, Took Him To Hospital’ – Police Debunk Reports On Sowore’s Kidnap
Ekiti State Police Command has debunked the alleged message circulating on social media alleging that Mr. Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential Candidate in next year’s election, was kidnapped in Ado-Ekiti, with his whereabouts unknown.
Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Sunday Abutu, noted that preliminary information indicates that he had an altercation with some individuals at a restaurant around Dalimore area in Ado-Ekiti, following which the Police were immediately alerted.
Abutu pointed out that upon receiving the report, police operatives mobilised to the scene and successfully rescued him.
“He, however, sustained a minor injury and is currently receiving medical attention at the Police Hospital, Ado-Ekiti”
He said the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, had ordered a discreet investigation into the incident to establish the full circumstances surrounding the altercation, identify all individuals involved and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The Command called for calm and urged members of the public to disregard the misleading narrative of an alleged kidnapping and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of creating unnecessary panic and tension.
Sowore, is currently in Ekiti State for the 2026 Ikogosi 17.5 kilometers marathon race expected to take place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, between Ekiti South West (Ilawe-Ekiti) and Ekiti West (Ikogosi).
Sowore also participated in the 2025 edition of the race.
