Weakening Family Values Driving Rising Insecurity in Nigeria – CDS Musa

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Christopher Musa, has attributed the surge in insecurity across Nigeria to the erosion of family values, emphasising that restoring these values is key to tackling the nation’s security challenges.

Musa made the remarks on Thursday during the closing ceremony of the 2025 edition of ‘Exercise Haske Biyu’ at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji, Kaduna.

The exercise centred on family values, civic responsibilities, and moral resilience as fundamental elements in addressing security threats confronting Nigeria and other participating nations.

“The family is the bedrock of every community. Without strong family structures, there can be no thriving community.

“What we have observed is that the weakening of the family system is contributing to rising insecurity. Therefore, addressing family issues is crucial to reducing insecurity,” he stated.

Musa further stressed that families must instil discipline, respect, and love in their children, noting that these values are essential for nurturing responsible citizens.
