Manchester City End Arsenal’s Quadruple Dream With Carabao Cup Triumph
Manchester City defeated Arsenal 2-0 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday to win the Carabao Cup, ending the Gunners’ hopes of securing a historic quadruple.
Nico O’Reilly emerged as the hero for City, scoring twice in the second half to hand Pep Guardiola’s side the trophy and deny Mikel Arteta’s team their first League Cup title since 1993.
City handed a start to goalkeeper James Trafford and fielded a strong lineup, including Erling Haaland, as they looked to snap a three-game winless run against an Arsenal side unbeaten in 12 matches across all competitions.
A tightly contested first half gave way to City’s dominance after the break, with Arsenal goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga playing an unfortunate role in both goals.
O’Reilly opened the scoring in the 60th minute after Arrizabalaga spilled a cross, allowing the midfielder to pounce and make it 1-0. Just four minutes later, he doubled the lead, finishing off Matheus Nunes’ cross to seal the victory.
Guardiola celebrated emphatically on the touchline as City secured their ninth Carabao Cup title, extending his personal record to five wins in the competition’s final without defeat.
