Peter Obi Not Wrong – Olubadan Ladoja Distances Self From Critics Over ‘My Dear Brother’ Remark

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has debunked claims of any friction between him and former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Earlier reports had suggested that the Olubadan was displeased after Obi congratulated him on his installation, referring to him as “my dear brother.” Critics including Oriyomi Hamzat, Reno Omokri, Lere Olayinka argued that such a term was inappropriate when addressing a monarch.
However, Oba Ladoja, in a phone conversation confirmed by Prof. Pius Abioje, clarified that there is no animosity.

“No, who said that? Why should I be angry with Peter Obi calling me his brother and friend? Am I not his brother and friend?” the Olubadan said.
Naija Metro had reported that Peter Obi had congratulated the monarch upon his installation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on 26 September 2025, describing him as “my dear brother, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa I.” Obi explained that his words were borne out of goodwill and reflected his respect for the Olubadan.
Oba Ladoja’s remarks confirm he did not take offence to Obi’s address, affirming the amicable relationship between the two leaders and quelling rumours of tension.
