Lagos lawmaker distributes cash, equipment to constituents, declares fourth term bid
The Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adedamola Kasunmu, has distributed cash gifts, generators, laptops, buses and various trade equipment to residents of Ikeja Constituency 2 under a Renewed Hope Super Empowerment programme.
Kasunmu also used the occasion to declare his intention to contest the Ikeja Constituency 2 seat for a fourth term, citing the value of legislative experience and ranking status in the House.
According to a statement on Tuesday, Kasunmu said the initiative reflected his resolve to always put constituents first in terms of economic and social wellbeing.
“It reflects shared vision for collective progress and unwavering commitment to the constituents; it is not just an event but a demonstration of our belief that a people’s representative must be people-centred, impacting their lives positively,” he said.
According to the statement, a total of 500 beneficiaries received N100,000 cash gifts each, while up to 2,000 others benefited from various equipment and services.
Items distributed included deep freezers, generators, fans, barbing kits, sewing kits and hairdressing kits for artisans.
The statement also noted that the lawmaker also gave out two Toyota Hiace buses to the All Progressives Congress in the constituency, 50 POS machines each with a N50,000 start-up support grant, 50 solar power generators and 20 laptops for tech-focused youths.
Artisans received 25 full barbing kits and 25 hairdressing kits, while 20 deep freezers went to market women. Ten security formations in the constituency each received fans and generators, and 10 widows were given N100,000 each.
Free medical check-ups were also provided, alongside food boxes distributed in support of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Kasunmu said the programme aligned with Tinubu’s agenda of shared prosperity and even distribution of wealth.
“I remain fully committed to delivering the dividend of democracy, let us continue to work together, this is also my official declaration to run for the seat for the fourth term, to bring in much more goodies for the people.
“Having been a ranking member in the house maturity on the job certainly counts, following the foot paths of our leader Rt. Hon. James Faleke who had done immensely well for Ikeja Federal constituency I am also not loosening my guard.
”Aside that we have food empowerment initiative where we put together a few food stuffs in the food boxes, that you see going round in support of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria GCFR, for his Renewed Hope Agenda initiative and to make Ikeja continue to shine as the nerve center of Lagos State.
“As far as I am concerned, we will make sure that we continue to deliver the dividend of democracy to the grassroots, improving the lives of our constituents,” he said.
The Ikeja apex leader, Mayegun Adeogun, commended the initiative, describing it as a mega empowerment programme. He urged beneficiaries to make full use of the items rather than sell them.
“It will go a long way to sustain them,” he said.
One beneficiary, Fabola Olabisi, a baker, received a solar-powered generator, which she said was an energy backup she could not afford on her own.
