Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, for allegedly attempting to supply ammunition to bandits operating across several states in the north.
According to security sources, the suspect was arrested at a major motor park in Kano, where she was caught with 200 rounds of newly acquired ammunition.
A source added that the operation followed actionable intelligence, which revealed Usman’s movement and activities.
Usman, who hails from Zango village in Kankara LGA of Katsina state, had transported the ammunition from Lafia in Nasarawa state to Kano, where it was to be moved onwards to Kankara.
During interrogation, she confessed that the consignment was delivered to her at Unguwa Uku motor park in Kano and is meant for a bandit operating in the Kankara forest.
Usman also claimed to have been involved in the trade for about two months, adding that a man identified as “Teso”, whom she alleged works with a soldier in Lafia, supplied her with the ammunition.
The suspect further alleged that she delivered the ammunition to a bandit identified as Mallam Haruna, adding that a Kano-based livestock trader, simply identified as Sulaiman, introduced her to him.
According to her, she had carried out transactions worth about N5 million, supplying ammunition to Haruna and other individuals identified as Buba and Abu, who are also said to be operating in the forest.
