Goalkeeper Suspended 13 Matches For Sensational Punch
The Spanish Football Federation handed Real Zaragoza goalkeeper Esteban Andrada a 13-match ban for violent conduct during a recent league match.
The Argentina goalkeeper punched a rival player after receiving his marching order for accumulating two yellow cards during the derby match with CD Huesca in the Spanish second division on Sunday night.
The ban includes a 12-match miss for violent conduct, and the one-match ban for the red card he received.
Andrada had rushed towards Huesca captain Jorge Pulido and punched him in the face, leading to the mass brawl witnessed n the temper-filled encounter.
The 35-year-old shotstopper had apologized for his actions after the match, and promised to accept the consequence of his actions.
“The truth is I’m very, very sorry for what happened, it’s not a good image for the club, for the fans, and especially not for a professional like myself. So, I’m very sorry.”
“Throughout my career, I’ve only had one red card, and that was for a handball outside the penalty area. I also want to apologize to Jorge Pulido because we are colleagues, and honestly, it was my fault. I lost focus at that moment, and well, I am here for whatever consequences the league may give me.”
Relegation-threatened Real Zaragoza also stated that it will take appropriate disciplinary measures against the former FC Monterrey of Mexico goalkeeper who featured in the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.
