Security operatives have killed five suspected bandits and rescued 32 kidnap victims during coordinated operations across parts of Katsina State.

The operations, carried out by combined security personnel, targeted the camp of a notorious bandit leader identified as Muhammad Fulani, who is said to be operating in Matazu, Musawa, Kankia, Charanchi and some parts of neighbouring Kano State.

A statement issued on Thursday by Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, said the security forces also recovered one AK-47 rifle, 10 magazines and nine motorcycles allegedly used by the criminal gang.

According to the statement, one of the bandits killed during the operation was identified as Samagi, said to be a close associate of notorious bandit kingpin, Muhammadu Kachalla.

The commissioner also disclosed that the operations led to the rescue of 32 abducted persons, comprising 10 women, 9 men and 13 children who were being held captive by the bandits.

“The governor has consistently maintained that his administration will not negotiate with bandits but will continue to pursue decisive measures aimed at eliminating banditry and restoring peace in Katsina State,” the statement said.

He added that the manhunt for Muhammad Fulani and other fleeing members of the gang was ongoing, with security operatives maintaining pressure on criminal hideouts across the affected areas.
