Terrorists on Saturday night reportedly stormed the Ikerin/Ajuba axis in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, launching a violent attack that left several residents kidnapped, others injured, and some feared dead.

The incident, which has further heightened tension across Kwara South, was confirmed by multiple local sources who spoke with SaharaReporters about the growing insecurity in the region, which has witnessed a surge in bandit and terrorist activities in recent months.

According to sources who spoke to SaharaReporters on Sunday, the attackers invaded the community on Saturday night, shooting sporadically.

“Yes, it is true but the exact numbers of the people kidnapped, injured and killed have yet to be confirmed,” a source said, adding that authorities and community leaders are still working to determine the full extent of casualties and abductions.

Residents said the gunmen operated freely for an extended period without facing immediate resistance.

One resident described the scene as chaotic, noting that people were awakened by gunshots and screams as families scrambled to flee into the night.

“The shooting was heavy. Everybody ran. We don’t even know who is alive or missing now,” another local source said, speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons.

Community members are now calling for urgent government intervention, lamenting what they describe as an escalating wave of insecurity in Kwara South, particularly in rural and semi-rural settlements that have increasingly become vulnerable to armed attacks.

In recent months, Kwara South has reportedly become a hotbed for terrorist activities, with several communities allegedly suffering repeated raids, kidnappings-for-ransom, and violent confrontations, leaving residents in constant fear and economic disruption as farming and local movement become increasingly restricted.
