NDC Guber Candidate Picks Kwankwaso’s Son As Running Mate
The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has picked Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, the biological son of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as his running mate.
The young Kwankwaso is the immediate past Commissioner for Youths and Sports.
Spokesperson of Kwankwasiyya, Habibu Saleh Mohammed, confirmed the development in a terse statement on Monday.
“HE Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo unveiled Hon Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as running mate for 2027 Governorship Election,” he said.
Mohammed explained that Gwarzo has since unveiled the running mate at an NDC caucus meeting held at Kwankwaso’s Miller residence in Kano.
He added that the selection followed the recommendation of the party to the governorship candidate, who in return, accepted the offer.
“The party recommended Gwarzo to pick Mustapha Kwankwaso as his running mate considering his track record as a successful businessman and how he served meritoriously as Commissioner in Kano recently,” Mohammed added.
Speaking shortly after the unveiling, the younger Kwankwaso accepted the nomination and thanked the party and the candidate for the confidence reposed in him.
He promised to do his best to contribute to the success of the party in the forthcoming election.
Daily Trust reports that the young Kwankwaso will contest for the deputy governorship position in the same party and election cycle that his father is also serving as running mate to the party’s presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi.
The younger Kwankwaso had resigned from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration after the governor parted ways with his father. (Daily trust)
