BREAKING: Two soldiers, police officer shot dead as gunmen attack NIPSS
Suspected gunmen last night, Monday, June 16, 2026, attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos, throwing the nation’s foremost policy institution into panic and leaving at least three security personnel dead.
A report by NewsmakersNG said that the attack reportedly occurred around 11:00 p.m., when the assailants attempted to breach the facility and gain access to the residential quarters of participants.
The portal quoted undisclosed sources as revealing that two soldiers and a police officer were killed during the assault. “The slain policeman was identified as the orderly attached to a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police,” the report said.
NewsmakersNG said it gathered that the attackers were prevented from accessing the participants’ quarters following swift resistance from security operatives stationed at the institute.
“No participant was abducted because the security forces successfully repelled the attackers before they could enter the residential area,” a source familiar with the incident disclosed to the online daily newspaper.
“The exact motive behind the attack remained unclear as of the time of filing this report, while authorities were yet to release an official statement on the incident.
“Security has reportedly been reinforced around the institution as investigations and manhunt operations commenced,” the report further said
