The approval followed the adoption of a report on a bill seeking to amend the Public Holidays Act 2004.

The report was considered at the plenary on Thursday with the lawmakers approving the amendments to three clauses ‎in the Act, as recommended in the report.

One of the clauses deleted May 29 as Democracy Day and replaced the date with June 12.

June 12 was when the 1993 election was annulled by the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. The INEC of the day was not allowed to declare the result officially.
