NFF Sacks Madugu, Falcons Coaching Crew After World Cup Miss

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sacked the Super Falcons of Nigeria head coach, Justin Madugu, and his crew.

The decision was reached by its Executive Committee following the poor performance at the recently concluded 2026 women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The nation’s football governing body announced that the sack of Madugu and his technical crew following their return from WAFCON where the Falcons crashed out at the quarter-final stage.

They also failed to achieve automatic qualification to the 2027 women’s World Cup, and lost to South Africa for a chance to reach the World Cup via the playoffs.

The NFF has, therefore, relieved the coaches in a terse statement released on its X account.

“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the statement read.

Madugu won Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title last year, but the quest for an 11th title was riddled with shoddy preparations, team incidents, poor performances from several key players in Morocco.

Madugu was announced Super Falcons interim coach in September 2024, and got a two years contract in October 2025 following his WAFCON heroics.

He leaves the role after two years in charge.
