Tinubu Withdraws APC Campaign Team List Amid Controversy Over 2027 Council

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly withdrawn the recently released list of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council amid concerns and controversy surrounding its composition.

The development comes shortly after the APC unveiled a 223-member campaign structure for Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The campaign council was expected to coordinate the ruling party’s nationwide mobilisation and build on the political structure that delivered victory for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

However, the composition of the new council has generated reactions within the party, particularly over the absence of some prominent APC figures who played significant roles in previous election campaigns.

The initial structure named Tinubu as Chairman, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice chairmen. Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was designated as Director-General.

Unlike the 2023 campaign structure, which had more than 400 members, the latest list was significantly smaller, fuelling speculation about possible changes to the composition of the team.

Reports of the withdrawal have therefore raised questions over whether the presidency and APC leadership are planning to make further adjustments before the campaign council is formally activated.

The move could also reflect efforts to accommodate more party leaders, governors, political stakeholders and influential figures ahead of the 2027 election.

Tinubu, who emerged as the APC’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election and subsequently won the presidency, is expected to seek another four-year term in 2027.

The 2027 contest is already shaping up to be highly competitive, with opposition parties and political blocs working to consolidate their structures ahead of the election.

For the APC, ensuring unity within its ranks will be critical as the party prepares for what is expected to be a fiercely contested presidential election.

As of now, the reported withdrawal means the final composition of Tinubu’s 2027 campaign team may still be subject to further changes.
