Gunmen Kill 3 Vigilante Members In Kaduna

Gunmen have killed three members of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (Kadvis) along the Zuntu-Zaria Road in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The incident occurred around 12:20am on Monday when the victims were on official duty, conducting stop-and-search operations along the highway.

It was gathered that the three officials had mounted a checkpoint when a red Gulf vehicle, travelling at high speed, approached the area and refused to stop.

The officials reportedly pursued the vehicle in their patrol car, during which the driver, identified as Mamiyo, who was also the deputy commander of Kadvis in Kubau LGA, was shot.

A resident, Ibrahim Zuntu, said the bullet reportedly passed through Mamiyo’s ear.

He said the occupants of the red Gulf vehicle were suspected to be armed robbers, adding that there was an exchange of gunfire between the gunmen and the vigilante officials during the chase.

“The people inside the red Gulf, we suspected, were armed robbers. The incident happened not far away from our residence, and there was an exchange of gunshots with the Kadvis during the chase,” he said.

Ibrahim added that after the driver was shot, the gunmen opened fire on another Kadvis official inside the vehicle before returning to the checkpoint.

“They returned to the checkpoint and met the other official who was left behind at the checkpoint and shot him too,” he said.

Another resident, Ali Zuntu, described the incident as painful, saying the community was shocked by the killings.

Meanwhile, two residents of Maro village in Kajuru Local Government Area were also killed when bandits attacked the community in the early hours of Monday.
The attackers also abducted three women and three children during the incident.

A resident, who identified himself as Ruben Maro, said residents could not sleep throughout the night as they engaged the attackers.

He identified those killed as Yonana Augustine and Ezekiel Dogara.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful as its spokesperson, DSP Mansur Hassan, could not be reached on the phone at the time of filing this report.(daily trust)
