Court Orders University Of Ibadan To Reopen Portal, Include Master’s Student Kayode Bello In Convocation List
A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State has ordered the University of Ibadan, to reopen Mr. Kayode Bello, a Master’s degree student portal and include his name in the convocation list.
In a judgement delivered by Justice Maha Evelyn, the court also directed the University and its agents to grant Bello access to his portal for payment of school fees, registration, and graduation purposes.
The court also mandated the university to include Bello’s name in the convocation list, paving the way for him to graduate.
Bello, a student of Communication and Language Arts, had approached the court challenging the university’s decision to close his portal without reason since 2012.
Despite the university senate approving his result for graduation in 2024, the Provost of the Post Graduate College, Prof. Ayo Ogunjuyigbe, removed Bello’s name from the graduation list without authorization.
Following illegal action the university authorities, Bello approached the court for redress, suing the Vice Chancellor; the Registrar; Provost, Post Graduate College, University of Ibadan, Head of the Information and Communication Technology, Mr. Abiodun Ajayi, Head of the Information, and Communication Technology Unit, Post Graduate College, University of Ibadan, Head, Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan, as respondents.
In the suit, Mr. Bello sought for an order of the court to declare as illegal the closure of his Masters Degree student portal without any reason since 2012.
Bello was admitted in 2020 at the University of Ibadan to study Masters in Communication and Language Arts (CLA).
The court’s ruling is a significant victory for Bello, who can now proceed with his graduation.
The University of Ibadan has been directed to comply with the court’s order, ensuring Bello’s academic progress is not further hindered.
