‘Enough of your theatrics’ — Kanu’s wife fumes over handling of husband’s move to Sokoto
Nnamdi Kanu’s wife, Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, has expressed anger over the handling of information surrounding her husband’s transfer to the Sokoto correctional facility, hours after one of his lawyers announced the development on social media.
In a post on X, Okwu-Kanu said she learned about the transfer “about three hours ago,” adding that those who visited the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader on Friday failed to brief her before the news was made public.
“Those who went to see him today did not give me any update on his transfer. Rather, they ran to social media to broadcast it,” she wrote.
Okwu-Kanu, who didn’t mention any names, warned those who visited her husband on Friday to act “in a civilised and professional manner,” saying she would not hesitate to “stress” anyone who failed to meet that expectation.
“If you all do not sit up and behave in a civilised and professional manner, I will stress you with my ‘stress’… Enough of your theatrics! Be warned!” she added.
Her reaction came shortly after Kanu’s former lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, posted that the IPOB leader had been moved from the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja to the Sokoto prison, describing the transfer as one that takes him farther from his family and legal team.
Kanu was on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, who convicted him on multiple terrorism-related charges.
Responding to the judgment, Okwu-Kanu accused the judge of acting out a predetermined script, arguing that the court erred by directing her husband to open a defence without reading out the written law guiding the trial.
