Commuters stranded as security operatives, bandits exchange fire on Kogi highway
Dozens of commuters were stranded on Monday after security operatives clashed with bandits along the Oshokoshoko–Obajana highway in Kogi state.
Travellers abandoned their vehicles and scampered to safety as the shootout continued for hours, prompting panic on the increasingly targeted road corridor.
A video posted on X showed travellers gathered by the roadside out of fear as the policemen battled the bandits from far away.
One commuter, who appeared distressed, pleaded for urgent support.
“Nigeria, please come and save us here. Everybody parked, nobody is moving. Kidnappers are taking over the road,” he said.
The highway has experienced repeated ambushes in recent days, raising fears among residents and frequent travellers.
