“He’ll embarrass Nigeria on world stage” — U.S. activist asks Senate to reject Reno Omokri’s ambassadorial nomination
A U.S.-based activist, Mike Arnold, has urged the Nigerian Senate to reject the ambassadorial nomination of Reno Omokri, describing him as a “danger to your country.”
Arnold, in a letter addressed to the Senate, listed several allegations against Omokri, including abandoning his autistic son in California, failing to attend his father’s funeral, and allegedly covering for his brother who raped a minor.
He also accused Omokri of sexual harassment at a State House event involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduagahn and criticised his alleged inconsistencies in publicly supporting and opposing Nigerian leaders.
“This is no diplomat. This is an effeminate, preening peacock who plucks his eyebrows and prances like a pixie in selfies for cheap social media clicks,” Arnold wrote.
He further warned that Omokri “sells his tongue to the highest bidder and his soul to the nearest camera,” claiming that any foreign offer could lead him to betray Nigeria’s interests.
Arnold emphasised that Omokri’s nomination fuels negative international stereotypes of Nigeria, portraying the country as home to “slick scammers.”
“Do not let this man carry your flag. He will embarrass you on the world stage within six months,” Arnold warned.
He concluded by insisting that the Senate should deny Omokri the nomination, saying Nigeria “deserves better than a paid liar who wouldn’t even bury his own father.”
