BBNaija organisers ‘dump’ Twitter for Facebook
Organisers of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) reality show appear to have complied with Federal Government’s Twitter ban, checks by The Nation have shown.
The Nation reports on June 4, the Federal Government suspended the operations of Twitter in Nigeria, accusing the microblogging site of undermining national existence.
During the opening show on Saturday night monitored by The Nation, the host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, only read comments from the reality show official Facebook page.
The reality show, which premiered on Saturday night, continues tomorrow.
Checks by The Nation also revealed that the official Twitter page of the reality show (@BBNaija) last tweeted on June 3.
But many BBNaija fans on Saturday night, using Virtual Private Network (VPN) applications to bypass restrictions to Twitter, trended various BBNaija hashtags and their favourite Housemates.
This year’s edition of BBNaija will run for 72 days and ends on October 3, 2021.
The Nation reports the organisers had disclosed that there will be no SMS voting for this season.
But fans will be able to vote for their favourite Housemates for free on BBNaija’s official website and mobile app as well as on the MyDStv and MyGOtv apps. (The Nation)
