CBN’s ENaira Speed Wallet App Records 756,000 Downloads In Six Months
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s eNaira speed wallet app, Africa’s first digital currency, has recorded 756,000 downloads in six months.
The CBN had in October 2021 unveiled the eNaira apps- eNaira speed wallet and eNaira speed merchant wallet to boost financial inclusion among individuals and merchants.
Speaking at the virtual Bankers’ Committee press conference on Thursday, Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank, Mariam Olusanya, stated that the e-naira wallet downloads currently stand at 756,000 since its launch in October 2021.
“Since it was launched, we have seen 756,000 downloads of the app,” she said.
“In terms of consumer wallets, we have seen 165,000 downloads and 2,800 merchant wallet downloads. And this is not unique to this app, this is what is usually seen with new apps.”
According to her, members of the Committee will continue to push for the adoption of e-naira across the country.
“In terms of adoption, the banks have been pushing it to their customers and you know it requires the individuals and the merchants. And in terms of the merchant, it’s quite low right now and it simply means we have to be pushing the merchants so that people would find places to spend their e-naira “
