Hushpuppi gets judgement day

The United States Attorney’s office for the Central District of California, Los Angeles, has fixed September 21 for the sentencing of suspected internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi.

This was disclosed on Friday by Thom Mrozek, the court’s Director of Media Relations, in response to an email inquiry by Channels Television.

Since his conviction in 2021, Hushpuppi’s sentence date has been postponed three times. His first sentencing was initially scheduled for February 14 before being moved to July 11 and then September 21.

Mrozek stated that the suspect would be sentenced later this year after having pleaded guilty to the alleged $1.1 million fraud last year.

“Mr. Abbas is currently scheduled to be sentenced by a federal judge in Los Angeles on September 21,” he said.

Hushpuppi agreed to a plea bargain and pleaded guilty to money laundering, wire fraud, and other charges brought against him by the court.

According to court documents, he faces “20 years in prison; three years of supervised release; and a fine of $500,000 or twice the gross gain or gross loss resulting from the offence.”

In June 2020, he was arrested in Dubai with 12 others and extradited to the United States for prosecution.
