INEC ad-hoc staff shot dead in Rivers %Post Title

An ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was shot dead by political thugs in Ward 7 Abua Central in Abua-Odual local government area of Rivers during Saturday’s governorship and House Assembly election.

The INEC Ad-hoc staff died when being rushed to hospital, while the other injured by a stray bullets is hospitalized.

Also, unconfirmed reports also claimed that at one person was killed during a gun duel between hoodlums and a team of Joint Security forces comprises the Nigerian Army, Police at Ogbakiri community, Emohua Local Government Area on Rivers State during the Saturday election.

A native of the community who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that after a fire fight with another rival political thugs, the hoodlums ran into the joint security forces who may have gotten an intelligence report that they were escaping through a track road to at Rumuada clan farm land in Ogbakiri.

There were also reports of of violence in Bori, headquarters of Khana and Tai local government areas both of Ogoniland where election was disrupted by hired political thugs.

SP Grace Iringe-Koko, Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command confirmed one dead at Abual-Odu..

Meanwhile, elections has been postponed in Degema and Asari-Toru local government due to protests by voters.

Agents of political parties had prevented INEC from deploying electoral material in Asari-Toru LG as they they insisted they must see the Collation Officers.

Mark Osulo, who is the Head of Voter Education and Publicity INEC ,Rivers State confirmed the postponement of election in the two local government areas

He explained that it was erroneous for voters to insist on seeing collation officers before they would allow voting to take place.
