The Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo as well as political leaders from South East will meet with President Bola Tinubu towards resolving the security challenges in the region.

This was part of the resolutions reached in a meeting with the leadership of Ohaneze, state governors from the region and members of the National Assembly held at Imo State Governors Lodge in Abuja on Monday.

The meeting, which has two state Governors in attendance,- Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and his Ebonyi State counterpart, Francis Nwuifuru lasted for about four hours.

New Telegraph reports that the meeting was presided over by President General Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

Uzodinma who spoke to journalists after the meeting, said the delegation would discuss with President Tinubu to intervene in stemming the wave of insecurity in the zone.

He stated that insecurity remained the greatest challenge facing the region.

According to the governor, “We have identified insecurity as the problem of South East for now and it is at the front burner and must be addressed.

“The federal government in the past has supported us but we think that the federal government can do more.

“We resolved to make a representation to the president for his intervention to be able to bring insecurity in the region to an end.

“Any moment from now, we will be putting together an arrangement to visit the president and discuss with him.

“There are certain things we cannot do very well without the federal government. Security is in the Exclusive List and only the federal government can deploy as appropriate.”

Chief Iwuanyanwu said the five governors of the Southeast are working together with lawmakers from the zone to find lasting solutions to challenges facing the people.
