The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara Command, has disclosed that it had received a suspected rape case against one Muhammadu Mailemu.

The case, according to a statement signed by the command’s PRO, Babawale Afolabi, on Tuesday, in Ilorin, was received from its Outpost office in Banni, Asa Local Government Area of the state.

Afolabi said the case was brought by Usman Mojana of Gaa Mojana on behalf of his daughter who was allegedly raped.

According to the report, the 10-year old victim was on the farm, with her younger sister plucking locust beans, when the suspect commanded her to come down from the tree and held her hand while her sister ran away.

He dragged her towards himself, removed her clothes and raped her, but she was later rescued by one Sheu Garba, who responded to her cries.

Garba reportedly raised alarm as other people came and held the suspect and took him to our office in Banni, Afolabi said.

The PRO said that the girl was immediately taken to the Basic Health Centre, Banni, for examination, where it was confirmed that she was raped, and the witness also corroborated that he met the suspect in the act.

Afolabi said that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to have committed the act but pleaded that it was the work of the devil.

In the meantime, the family of the victim, said they do not want any case, but for the suspect to treat their daughter and pay the hospital bill, the PRO said, adding: “The girl was taken to hospital for treatment and the suspect’s family paid the hospital bill.

”The family of the victim refused to come back to our office, for fear that we might force them to take the case to court,” Afolabi said.

The PRO said that the complainant would be invited to their office again, to either transfer the case to court or withdraw the case.
